For those scratching their heads wondering why I did not rank Cody Franson higher than Jake Gardiner, I will present my case to the court. Franson was almost traded to the Montreal Canadiens but the trade was nixed by Josh Gorges because he did not want to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although he does produce offensively, his +/- was terrible last year at -20, a big drop off from being a +4 the year before. He only had 2 more points than Jake Gardiner with 33 points, but did have 18 points on the power play which is an asset for Fantasy owners. If Franson can improve defensively and continue to produce on the powerplay he can be a decent fantasy option but Leafs management is still uncertain about Franson’s future with the team and it could mean that he gets moved this season.
