According to a report from Italy, Toronto FC has made a considerable offer in an attempt to sign UEFA Euro 2020 winner Andrea Belotti.

Even though the regular season is now underway, Toronto FC is still looking for ways to improve their roster. And while they suffered a setback in their pursuit of Domenico Criscito, the latest speculation is certainly encouraging for Reds fans.

As per Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun, TFC has apparently offered Andrea Belotti $10 million per season plus bonuses. This is not the first time the club has been linked to the Italian international, with ESPN first noting Toronto FC’s interest towards the end of last year.

What’s intriguing about this latest update is that just a few days ago, it was claimed Belotti had signed a contract to join AC Milan in the summer. As per OneFootball network outlet Sempremilan, the claim came from lawyer Emiliano Nitti.

However, this has been disputed by Italian journalist Rudy Galetti. According to Galetti, sources close to Belotti have advised he has not signed any deal with AC Milan.

Further, it is these same sources who advised Galetti that TFC has offered Belotti $10 million per season plus bonuses. The Reds will understandably be hoping that previously signing Lorenzo Insigne also helps in persuading his fellow UEFA Euro 2020 winner to join him in Southern Ontario.

How realistic it is to expect Belotti to join Toronto FC remains to be seen. You can’t fault them for their ambition however, especially after the aforementioned coup in signing Insigne.

Belotti would certainly boost a TFC attack which struggled to score last year and so far has just two goals through two games. He looks as good as ever, having scored twice in three starts since returning from a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old forward is both physical and quick which, combined with his high football IQ, makes him a deadly threat for opponents. He surpassed 100 Serie A goals earlier this season and has scored 12 times for Italy in 41 appearances.
