Toronto FC: Lorenzo Insigne helps Napoli reach top of Serie A
As Toronto FC waits for Lorenzo Insigne to finish his season in Serie A, he has helped Napoli get into the race for the Scudetto.
If you needed any reminder as to why Lorenzo Insigne was a priority addition for Toronto FC back in January, his latest performance this weekend showed why.
In a 2-1 victory over Lazio in Serie A action, Insigne had a goal and an assist on the winner in stoppage timer. Now Napoli find themselves at the top of the Serie A table as they moved ahead of AC Milan on goal differential.
It would be quite the gift for his club if Insigne can help them capture the Scudetto as he prepares to move over to MLS after 15 years in Serie A. TFC opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Dallas.
The challenge for the team is waiting for Insigne to come but when he does, hopefully, he’ll be joining a club that’s hitting its stride.
“We need to be good … so when he comes here he can come with a good atmosphere, with good results in the team,” Alejandro Pozuelo said. “It’s more easy when you come new to the team and everything is good.”
Lorenzo Insigne will have company with Domenico Criscito set to join Toronto FC in March
It looks like Toronto FC won’t have to wait long for their other Italian player to make his move to MLS as defender Domenico Criscito is expected to arrive in March.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Criscito is expected to have his deal completed this week. This is certainly a nice bit of news as TFC will get a much-needed boost to its backline with Criscito who should still have something left in the tank at 35-years-old.
Adding a player who has spent time on the national team, and isn’t just a pure defender which should offer Bob Bradley some versatility. Maybe the addition of Insigne can help TFC recruit more players especially if they have their sights on adding more players from Serie A.
