Toronto FC introduced international defender Carlos Salcedo on a media call during Tuesday and we provide a breakdown of the main talking points.

After weeks of speculation and anticipation, Toronto FC finally confirmed the acquisition of Carlos Salcedo on Monday. In return, Yeferson Soteldo was traded to Tigres UANL.

Salcedo flew to California to join his new teammates in training camp, before being introduced to the media on Tuesday. Here are our takeaways from the media call with the Reds’ newest signing:

1) Impressed with Toronto all around

One of the main reasons Salcedo is happy to be with Toronto FC, is due to their ambition and previous success. As per the Canadian Press via Sportsnet, he said:

"“For me that’s the main reason — to be in a team that wants to fight for every competition. So I’m here to help the team and do great things during this period.”"

Certainly, it is a positive Salcedo has been able to look past last season, which was arguably the worst campaign in club history. His perception of TFC will have been helped greatly when they stunned the footballing world, by signing Lorenzo Insigne.

Of course, it’s just as important for a player to be happy off the pitch as well. Especially when you have a family; Salcedo has a wife and son.

The 28-year-old said on the media call that living in Toronto was an attractive proposition to him and his family and overall he is excited by the move to Southern Ontario. As per Sportsnet, he said:

"“All I heard was great things. So I’m happy to be here and glad to play with this shirt … It’s a great club. I was so impressed to be honest; I’ve been only (training) here one day and I already trust my teammates and everyone who works on the team.”"
