With the CFL negotiation window open, the Toronto Argonauts have reportedly made Ja’Gared Davis a top priority to sign.

We are approaching a critical time in the CFL off-season with teams trying to fill out critical parts of the roster and the Toronto Argonauts have their sights set on a big name.

According to 3DownNation and the Toronto Sun’s Fran Zicarelli, the Argos are looking to sign Ja’Gared Davis who is a pending free agent. Right now, teams have an exclusive negotiating window where they can submit offers up until Feb. 6 to the CFL office.

So in this situation, if Toronto does submit an offer the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have an exclusive 48-hour window to negotiate with their pending free agent. Then Davis will have a chance to choose from the offers presented to him but if he doesn’t do it by noon on Feb. 8, he will become a free agent.

There is no better pass-rusher set to hit the open market as the 31-year-old recorded six sacks and 39 tackles in 13 games. Where Davis did his best work was in the playoffs where he had seven tackles, five sacks and a forced fumble which was crucial to the Tiger-Cats run to the Grey Cup.

What gives Toronto the edge over some other teams is that newly hired defensive coordinator Corey Mace worked with Davis when they were with the Calgary Stampeders. The Argos are also no surprises to swinging big on adding pass rushers when they signed Charleston Hughes last season but he had an underwhelming season.

Being able to take Davis away from Hamilton would be a big win for Toronto especially with how the East Final went for the Argos. The team also brought back Henoc Muamba which was another crucial move for the team both on and off the field.

Of course, the big move made by the Argos was bringing back quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson who signed a one-year extension. What else the team has in store will be interesting and if they get Davis, it would go a long way in solidifying the defence.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson still has plenty to prove. dark. Next
