Continuing a fine tradition of homegrown talent

As announced by the club’s communications department, TFC has signed Luca Petrasso as a Homegrown Player through the 2023 season. He is the 27th player in club history to be signed from the Toronto FC academy.

Petrasso has been with the club since 2018, going on to play four seasons for TFC II. In that time, he has appeared 63 times and scored three goals in the process.

The 21-year-old defender is a promising talent, who has also played for Canada’s national team at the youth level. As per the club’s press release, TFC Head Coach and Sporting Director Bob Bradley said:

"“Luca had a very good season for Toronto FC II in 2021, and we are looking to build on that work this year. It’s always important to see a player move from the academy to the first team. Luca has excellent starting points as a left back with his passing and ability to move forward.”"

TFC will understandably be hoping Petrasso continues a fine tradition of homegrown players who have prospered with the first team. Previous success stories include Jonathan Osorio, Ashtone Morgan and Ayo Akinola.
