Trade with FC Dallas

As per Tom Bogert of Mlssoccer.com, TFC has traded Dom Dwyer and the third overall pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft to FC Dallas. In return, the Reds acquired $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money (GAM).

This is the second time Toronto FC has acquired GAM recently, after receiving $75,000 from the Colorado Rapids. GAM is set to increase from $1,525,000 to $1,625,000 for the 2022 season and it is clear TFC want as much money as possible to go towards financing the roster.

Further to this is point, as reported by the Toronto Sun‘s Steve Buffery, Dwyer’s guaranteed salary for 2022 would have been between $300,000-$350,000. The forward had little impact after joining TFC last season, with no goals and just one assist in 15 total appearances.*

Toronto FC still has second round (31st overall) and third round (59th overall) picks for the 2022 SuperDraft. The draft takes place on Tuesday.

* FC Dallas subsequently exercised their off-season contract buyout option on Dwyer, thus making him a free agent.
