Toronto FC officially confirm Lorenzo Insigne signing: 6 takeaways
By Paul Taylor
5) Style and productivity
Insigne is known for his creativity and pace, with him just as likely to set up a goal as score one. He is right-footed although he usually plays on the left wing, has an excellent footballing IQ and is deadly from set pieces.
The Frattamaggiore, Naples native has played for Napoli since 2010 and amassed 416 total appearances. In that time, he has scored 114 goals and added 95 assists.
Internationally, Insigne has made 53 appearances for Italy. He has scored on 10 occasions, including two goals during UEFA Euro 2020.
6) Team statement
TFC head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley is understandably thrilled to sign Insigne. As per the team communications department, Bradley said:
"“We are all looking forward to having Lorenzo join us this summer. His ability to create chances for himself and his teammates is special. Having watched him for many years, I also know he’s also a player who works for the team. Lorenzo is the kind of player you come to watch, because there’s always a chance, he’ll do something unforgettable.”"
Overall, these are exciting times for Toronto FC, especially following one of the worst seasons in club history. There is every indication they will soon return to contending for MLS Cup glory.
