Will the Toronto Maple Leafs playoff drought come to an end?

Looks this is the most important question facing the team in 2022 considering what happened last year.

Many would probably agree that getting by the first round would be a massive accomplishment for this group as it would get rid of that doubt that has been with the team throughout the years. The team has appeared to take strides in important areas especially special teams.

It certainly helps that the team’s depth up front is improved and could get better if they make additions at the trade deadline. On top of that, they have already dealt with injuries to key players and overcame a disturbing stretch where their confidence was shaken.

Maybe that adversity they faced was the wake-up call they needed because since their tough start, they have been one of the top teams in the league. Of course, it seems like there is a theme to what will ultimately lead to success for this group.

We have often heard about the core four players on the Leafs who have been contributing to the team’s success. It seems simple to say that when the Leafs top forwards are at their best, this team is tough to beat and when they are held in check, the depth hasn’t been able to step up.

You wonder what will happen if this team suffers a similar disappointing end to their season. Dubas has put his faith in this group and you wonder whether he gets the chance to pull the trigger on major moves or if he goes down with the ship.

However, that’s only a hypothetical situation and given how the Leafs have played this season, it would be wrong to write them off. At this rate, this comes down to the mental toughness of the team because the talent is there and they have shown that they can play the right way.
