Will Jack Campbell return to the Toronto Maple Leafs next season?

There is no player who should be a higher priority to bring back next season than Jack Campbell.

He has performed at an elite level this season with a 15-5-2 record, 1.94 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage. Safe to say, there is no better bargain in the NHL than Campbell at a $1.65 million cap hit.

You can expect any long-term deal involving Campbell to be north of $4.5 million this off-season. Another factor to consider is Petr Mrazek’s contract which might have to be moved in order to make room for Campbell.

Some are even suggesting that Jake Muzzin and Alexander Kerfoot could be on their way out if the Leafs need to shed some salary. At this rate, Muzzin’s $5.625 million cap hit might make more sense if the team can get younger and another team sees the veteran as an ideal target.

It would be tough to see the Leafs let Campbell walk considering there isn’t a player capable of stepping in and replacing him as the starter. It made sense for Toronto to let Frederik Andersen leave last off-season because they had Campbell and figured they could find a 1B option.
