Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Tampa Bay Lightning to reach the Eastern Conference Finals

The tough part about the Stanley Cup Playoffs is that the first two rounds of the are played within the division.

In past years, this has pinned Toronto against the Boston Bruins who have had the Leafs’ number especially in Game 7. Some expect the Leafs to have a tough time against the Florida teams and even Boston but those teams have been through quite a bit of turnover and have some uncertainty.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to expect the Lightning to be at the top of the division and should win their first-round matchup. If that happens, we expect the Leafs to be on a collision course against them with the winner moving on to the semifinals.

The Atlantic Division should be better than the Metropolitan Division and there’s a good chance that whoever survives the first two rounds coming out of the Atlantic should be moving on to the Stanley Cup Final.

Of course, as we have seen with this team, a hot goalie can derail them especially with stakes at an all-time high. With Morgan Rielly in the final year of his deal, the Leafs are putting themselves in a situation where they are taking the chance of letting that situation play out.
