Can we all just pretend that the ’20-21 season didn’t happen? OK, cool.

With the first round of the NBA playoffs just beginning to get underway, an odd pall has been cast over the city. Normally, Torontonians would be planning their lives around alternating days of Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs playoff games.

But while the Leafs played out their regular season in Toronto and won the Scotia NHL North Division, the Raptors were cast away to Tampa and struggled to build momentum. For the first time in eight years, they missed out on the postseason.

With a failed season usually comes changes, but how much can be chalked up to the vapid atmosphere that surrounded the first team in NBA history to play 72 road games? Just one season removed from battling for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals, the core of this team is still competitive.

However, there are some sticking points that need to be addressed. Ringleaders Masai Ujiri and Kyle Lowry are not under contract for next season. The Raptors also wield a lottery pick, a foreign asset to a team that has not missed the playoffs since ’12-13. Here are four priorities for the Raptors to handle before resuming action (hopefully back in Toronto) next season.
