Buffalo Bills: Week 3 vs Washington Football Team

Week 3 will either be a warm welcome back to Buffalo for Ryan Fitzpatrick or an interesting look at what Taylor Heinicke can be as a starter.

One of the only true quarterback battles going on in the league this year, Fitzpatrick will be fighting for the starting job on his ninth team against Heinicke, who’s started two professional football games in his life.

Heinicke won the respect of his teammates last season, when he filled in admirably for Alex Smith in Washington’s playoff loss to Tampa Bay. His head-first dive for the pylon and overall efficient performance kept the WFT in it against the eventual Super Bowl champs.

Still, the sample size is miniscule with Heinicke, and Fitzpatrick proved he could still sling it with the Dolphins last season. At this point, it truly is a toss-up.

What is known for certain is that Washington has one of the best front sevens in football. In what will be just his second season, Chase Young is already the unquestioned leader of the group, with Montez Sweat and Daron Payne feeding off of the double teams that Young draws. Josh Allen will need to be on his toes, but if the Buffalo line can buy him enough time, Washington’s secondary is vulnerable.

While Washington should contend for the NFC East, they don’t have the firepower offensively to keep up with the Bills’ quick-strike offence.

Prediction: 24-12 Bills
