Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander has become a lightning rod for argument among the Leafs Nation faithful in his young career.

No one player on the Toronto Maple Leafs draws as much back and forth banter among fans than William Nylander.  Some think he is underpaid while others would drive him to the airport to get him out of town.

Nylander has shown flashes of brilliance in his Leafs career and times of looking lost on the ice.  He has become the Phil Kessel of the current iteration of Maple Leafs, drawing heaps of praise and scorn along the way.

The former eighth overall selection of the Maple Leafs in 2014, has four years remaining on his contract, with a cap hit of $6.96 million.  That is the fourth-highest cap hit on the team, trailing behind Auston Matthews, John Tavares and Mitchell Marner.

So which side is right, if either?  Would the Maple Leafs be better off moving him out of town?  Or is he an untouchable part of the core?  Let’s investigate.
