With free agency approaching quickly, the Toronto Maple Leafs could take advantage of some tough cuts teams had to make with their rosters.

We are getting close to free agency and that means some interesting decisions coming for the Toronto Maple Leafs and players they might be interested in.

Over the past few weeks, much has been said about Alex Pietrangelo getting closer to hitting the market and the Leafs being a potential suitor. Of course, the Leafs need more than just a single defenceman to get this team in a better spot and made it clear with Kyle Dubas’ recent comments.

The team only extended qualifying offers to Ilya Mikheyev and Travis Dermott which means Jeremy Bracco, Evan Rodrigues, Frederik Gauthier and Max Veronneau will become free agents. This opens up contract space to bring in other players who can be more effective lower in the lineup which should hopefully provide more support than what they got this season.

There will be options the team can consider, some might be more expensive than others but will certainly bring upgrades. A player like Tyler Toffoli would be an ideal player but he’ll certainly be out of the Leafs’ price range unless Toronto makes another move to make his salary work which seems unlikely.

Here are some other players the team could consider.
