1. Braden Schneider – RHD- Brandon Wheat Kings

Looking at a few mock drafts, Schneider has been the consensus pick by many and you can easily see since he is a defenceman that is right-handed. It’s not a secret that this is an area the Leafs need to address now but it doesn’t hurt to use another pick to help bolster that area.

There is a lot of intrigue with Schneider because he’s a stout defender in his own end that uses his size to take away time and space in the defensive zone. This is the prototypical defenceman the Leafs need but he could use some work on his offensive game if he wants to live up to a first-round grade.

He is an older player too but the Leafs have never been shy about taking a more experienced player. If the Leafs feel that Schneider is the best available based on their needs then don’t be surprised to see the Wheat Kings defenceman get the call.
