The Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres have several highly touted players who would be welcome assets to most NHL teams.

With a tip of the cap to Bill Simmons and his nearly annual ranking of the NBA’s trade value, I present my take on the NHL’s most valuable assets.

While the NHL salary cap operates differently from the NBA, the exercise is similar in ranking the players on the list.  Where do the best Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres rank on the list?

Simmons always did an excellent job in setting the rules for his rankings and considering multiple factors in whether or not any of these hypothetical trades would come to fruition.

Also, a tremendous thank you to the indispensable Cap Friendly for their ongoing effort to provide all things cap and contract related to the NHL.
