The Toronto Maple Leafs put a bow on their season speaking to the media for the final time and there was a lot to digest from multiple perspectives.

When things go wrong for the Toronto Maple Leafs, nothing gets people buzzing more than hearing from the front office but of course this was a little different since there wasn’t a formal press conference because of COVID-19.

The players went first then we heard from Kyle Dubas and Brendan Shanahan and let’s just say Twitter was all over each word spoken. It’s certainly fair considering the whirlwind Leafs Nation has been through the past few days as the misery from the past 16 years continues to get magnified.

Of course, if you were expecting to see the team completely give in and accept the criticism being thrown at them then you might have been disappointed. It’s never easy to admit when something goes wrong but this fanbase was looking for someone to take ownership and didn’t get that.

Instead, we got an insistence that this core is capable of taking the next step and while the player’s belief is not surprising, you get the sense the fanbase is now in a see it before they believe it mood with this team going forward.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some important takeaways from the press conference.
