The opening match between Toronto FC and D.C. United has been moved to Monday morning.

We recently wrote about all the uncertainty surrounding Toronto FC’s preparations for the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando. On Sunday, yet another obstacle presented itself.

TFC’s first match of the tournament against D.C. United has been rescheduled, because of problems with COVID-19 tests on both teams.

Now that the game has been scheduled for Monday at 9:00 a.m. ET, the team’s following match against the Montreal Impact has been moved to Thursday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

More from Toronto FC

The league was waiting on official results from one unconfirmed positive test from a D.C. player and one inconclusive test from a Toronto FC player, according to a report from The Canadian Press via TSN.

There has been no word about which player on TFC had an inconclusive test although general manager Ali Curtis said the player was his player was asymptomatic.

In this case, it is best that the league takes as much of a cautious approach considering the risk of infection being as high as it is in Florida right now.

"“Both teams participated in another round of testing (Sunday) and all players from the two clubs tested negative,” the league said in a statement issued Sunday evening. “Based on those results, the game will be played (Monday) morning at 9 a.m. ET.“The player who received an initial positive test and the player whose test was inconclusive will undergo additional testing and will not play in (Monday’s) match.”"

This latest development comes after both FC Dallas and Nashville SC removed themselves from the tournament due to multiple positive tests.
