2. The Raptors get their rings

Just as they did in the inaugural season of NBA basketball, the Toronto Raptors christened the 74th season of The Association, although this time, there were a few more diamonds involved.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the crowd, then presented the ownership group with their bling. Next up was Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster, who both dapped up Silver like they had known him forever.

Then, the players were invited forward to receive their rings. After everyone was iced out, Kyle Lowry took the mic and thanked the crowd, before asking all of his teammates to gather around him and look to the rafters.

Lowry encouraged the crowd to count down from five, and as the word “one” left the mouths of 20,787 raspy-throated fans, a black sheet gave way to the Raptors’ 2019 “World Champions” banner. Those who came for the pomp and circumstance stayed for the game, as the Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans needed overtime to settle their differences.

VanVleet put up a career-high 34 points, including a three-pointer with 1:28 left in OT to seal a 130-122 victory.
