9. Familiar faces win the battle, Raptors win the war

The night of Jan. 12 in Toronto wasn’t a particularly great one for the Raptors, but out of it came the crowning on-court achievement of their 2019-20 season.

On this night, not one, not two, but three former Raptors combined to overcome an 18-point, third-quarter deficit to edge their former club 105-104. DeMar DeRozan led the game in points with 25, while Jakob Poeltl led the Spurs with 10 rebounds. Rudy Gay also poured in 15 points off the bench to complete the improbable comeback.

However, this shot in the thigh might have been just what the Raptors needed. The team would go on to not lose a game for the better part of an entire month, from Jan. 15 to Feb. 10, setting a new franchise record for the longest winning streak in the process.

Sometimes a team needs to take a step back before they can take a giant step forward.
