2. Altidore seals the title win

This goal felt like an inevitability, but that didn’t make seeing the ball hit the twine any less sweet. Coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Seattle Sounders in the 2016 MLS Cup, the 2017 iteration of Toronto FC, spurred on by captain Michael Bradley, was out for revenge.

As mentioned earlier, they struggled through the playoffs, but as night fell on BMO Field in early December, it became clear that only one team was going to win this match. TFC continually asked questions of Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei, but he was up to every one of them, thwarting chance after chance after chance.

However, the soccer gods were looking down on the Reds on the night, and Altidore was ready to make their wishes come true. After nursing his injured ankle for over a week, he sprinted onto a Giovinco pass to finally break through Frei’s wall.

TFC peppered Frei with 22 shots over the course of the 90 minutes. However, none will be remembered quite as much as Altidore’s championship-winning strike.
