9. Alejandro Pozuelo announces his arrival

Alright, I’ll admit to a bit of recency bias on this one, but Alejandro Pozuelo‘s looper over the head of New York City FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson left even his teammates in disbelief.

Coming into this chilly night in late March, the wound of Sebastian Giovinco‘s departure was still open, and fans were wondering how the club was going to replace the best player in franchise history.

Given this unenviable task, Pozuelo showed no signs of shyness in his debut, dinking a panenka penalty over Johnson in the 59th minute. However, what the Spaniard had for an encore topped even this showing of moxie.

Having taken a couple of steps into the penalty area, Pozuelo wedged the top of his boot under the ball and lifted it over the flailing arm of Johnson. The goal highlighted a 4-0 win over the eventual regular season Eastern Conference Champions and gave TFC fans a taste of what was to come.
