3. Wolfpack rugby at BMO Field

From a humble, lop-sided, weather-stricken venue to a truly beautiful stadium that has played host to the MLS Cup, Grey Cup and the NHL’s Centennial Classic, BMO Field has quickly become the premier field sports venue in Toronto. Lamport Stadium, the current home of the Toronto Wolfpack, is decidedly not.

Just recently promoted to the Betfred Super League, the Wolfpack may very well have outgrown their humble beginnings at the city-owned stadium. Lamport’s field is also artificial, a true rarity in rugby, as the burn caused by being repeatedly being pounded into the ground can cause unsightly gashes.

Even so, the Wolfpack have built a genuine following in Liberty Village. If only there was a natural grass stadium nearby that has previously hosted rugby with great success during the 2015 Pan Am Games and with Canada Rugby…oh wait, there is.

And, for once, I’m not just spit-balling. Wolfpack chairman Bob Hunter has apparently inquired about gaining access to BMO Field for a potential exhibition clash between his squad and the Australian national team.

This match could serve as a stage to show off a budding Toronto sports team to a wider audience. Or, better yet, be a catalyst for a permanent move.
