Toronto Maple Leafs: What to do with each pending unrestricted free agent
Jason Spezza
While there are question marks as to whether the Leafs should being Barrie and Clifford back, there should be less of a debate about Spezza.
Sure, he isn’t getting younger but there hasn’t been any noticeable decline in his play from the start of the season until now. At $700,000, it’s really tough to poke holes in Spezza’s play and he doesn’t provide many reasons to be dissatisfied in his play.
It feels like Sheldon Keefe was on a mission to undo the tough beginning of the season Spezza went through with Mike Babcock. Many did not understand what Babcock was trying to accomplish with Spezza and you have to credit him for not letting it get to him.
With nine goals and 25 points in 58 games and a 54 per cent faceoff percentage, Spezza should be a priority to come back and it doesn’t seem like he would want a pay raise to stay.
