Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to decide which unrestricted free agents will be a priority.

With the NHL season on pause, teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in a strange holding pattern.

Many players who are expected to be free agents this off-season are facing a tough summer of negotiations. Some that were looking to take advantage of a bigger payday might have to settle for a lesser deal or consider a chance on a one-year deal and try their luck in 2021.

For the Leafs, there is a group of free agents they will have to decide whether it is worth considering bringing back or cutting loose. Given their salary cap situation, some of those decisions will be easier than most.

Let’s just get two players out of the way right now – Nathan Horton and David Clarkson are technically free agents and were never going to return since they were being used as salary cap relief. Instead, we are looking at four players who will be free to test the open market whenever that will happen.
