Toronto FC: 5 takeaways from Michael Bradley interview
By Paul Taylor
5) A duty to the fans
Bradley talked about a conversation he had with one of his neighbors, who said how much they were missing sports. The neighbor referenced how the NHL and NBA playoffs would have started, while MLS would have been right in the heart of their season.
Bradley mentioned how life is bigger and more important than sports or anything else at the moment. The priority is making sure the healthcare workers and first responders get everything they need to do their job, while keeping people safe.
At the same time however, the conversation with the neighbor made the midfielder realise how much sports mean to people. As per TSN, Bradley said:
"“You could see for somebody like that, this idea of sports coming back at some point in safe ways, where everything is done the right way, I do think at the right time it’s going to mean a lot for a lot of people. I think it will be a signal at a certain point that life is starting to get back to normal, however long that takes.”"
Of course, the key phrase in the previous paragraph is ‘however long that takes’. Regardless, whenever MLS and other professional sports leagues do return to action, their feeling of responsibility to entertain people will only be matched by the appreciation of fans.
