They often say that perception is reality, and this is definitely something to consider when looking at the odds and predictions entering the 100th Grey Cup. The Stampeders were picked as slight favourites by various media analysts and sports bookmakers.
For those who agreed with this take, the rationale was simple. Calgary’s 12-6 record compared favourably to Toronto’s average 9-9 regular season, which was highlighted by their 4-5 record at Rogers Centre.
On the flip side, it almost seemed like people were ignoring one vitally important bit of information. More specifically, that the Argonauts had won both regular season contests against the Stampeders.
The first game in Toronto was a thrilling shootout, which the Double Blue won 39-36 in Ricky Ray’s home debut. The second win in Calgary was a more defensive affair but also more impressive, as the Argos left town with a 22-14 victory.
