Projected Infield

Last season we saw just how exciting the young core of the team could be, and it appears that there will only be one change to the infield this season. Justin Smoak is gone after signing with the Milwaukee Brewers, and Travis Shaw was brought in to replace him.

His position flexibility should allow other players to move around and get some games at DH. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will start the season at third base, but if the Blue Jays do decide to try him at first base he can always swap with Shaw who can play both.

Rowdy Tellez is still in the mix as well, and will likely split time between first base and DH. Danny Jansen will continue to be the primary catcher with Reese McGuire backing him up. Luke Maile is no longer in the mix after being non-tendered by the team and signing a free agent deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McGuire looked good in limited at-bats last season so expect him to get a decent amount of starts allowing Jansen plenty of days off.

Predicted opening day infield:

Catcher: Danny Jansen

First Base: Travis Shaw

Second Base: Cavan Biggio

Shortstop: Bo Bichette

Third Base: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

DH: Rowdy Tellez

Bench: Reese McGuire
