Toronto Blue Jays: 7 series to look forward to during 2020 season
June 31-July 2 – Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox
No two teams have been more alike over the last couple of seasons than the Blue Jays and White Sox. Both hemmed and hawed over rebuilding, both built up their farm systems, both splurged on a big name pitcher in the offseason, and now, both seem to be emerging at the same time as contenders in the American League.
Along with welcoming back Edwin Encarnacion, this three gamer set against the backdrop of Canada Day weekend could have major playoff significance. The Yankees and Twins are likely going to run away with the AL East and AL Central (which geographically speaking, the Blue Jays should be in, but we’ll save that rant for another day) respectively, but the White Sox and Blue Jays could both feasibly contend for a berth in the Wild Card game, along with the Rays, Angels and Athletics.
The similarities continue, as the two young cores possessed by both teams in this series seem to be following the same trajectory. Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez have announced their presence to the world, while Bichette and Guerrero Jr. have done the same. Both teams also have a future ace waiting in the wings, as Michael Kopech for the Sox and Nate Pearson for the Jays hold their respective club’s futures in their hands.
The lines you can draw between these two squads could go on for kilometres, but that’s all on paper. On the day that celebrates the union of our great nation, we find out for real.
