Matt Dumba

This one is still probably near the top of the list considering the increased chatter surrounding the Leafs interest in Mathew Dumba.

Toronto needs to get a defenceman that can be an impact on the right side and can hopefully see Cody Ceci packing as well. This might seem like a pipe dream but Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said the Leafs have kicked the tires on what a potential package for Dumba would be.

"“It’s gonna cost them probably one of the Kapanen, Johnsson, Kerfoot trio, maybe a young D and I don’t know if it’ll be a high pick, but I think it’ll be a pick,” Friedman said on what the cost could be."

Considering the depth the Leafs have upfront trading one of their expendable forwards certainly makes sense. With Kapanen’s recent benching and reported butting of heads with Sheldon Keefe, now might be the time to try and see what he could fetch as a return.

As for the draft pick, the Leafs probably can avoid giving up a first-round pick if they include a more prolific defenceman in return although it would be tough to see Dubas trade away Timothy Liljegren or Rasmus Sandin. Does this mean Travis Dermott? It’s tough to know because the Wild are in a tough position because they don’t have many tradeable players that can give them enough in return to help them in the future.

If Dubas isn’t willing to swing big on a player like Dumba, he has to look at any other available options and we provide another on the next page.
