#5 The Bringer of Rain returns

Atlanta Braves at Blue Jays – August 27, 2019

When I first started compiling this list, I was going to give Kevin Pillar’s return the nod over Josh Donaldson‘s just because of circumstance.

While Pillar was shipped off out of the blue (literally and figuratively), Donaldson seemed to want out near the end of his time with the club. But then, I flashed back to 2015, the year Donaldson won AL MVP and led the Blue Jays to the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Whereas Pillar was the graceful fan favourite, Donaldson was the raw, uncut, unbridled stallion. Not always easy to watch and not always friendly, he brought a level of intensity to the team that was critical to the mix on the two playoff teams he was a part of.

When Donaldson returned to Rogers Centre wearing the colours of the Atlanta Braves on August 27, he showed some of the emotion that we saw him play with, night in and night out. He is in the midst of a resurgent season with the Braves, who are primed for a deep playoff push, but he wore an 0-4 line on the night. Perhaps he missed Toronto a little more than he thought.
