6. The Return of Superman

San Francisco Giants at Blue Jays – April 23, 2019

In one of the most out of nowhere (aren’t you glad I didn’t say left field) deals in team history, the Blue Jays chose to trade star centre-fielder and fan favourite Kevin Pillar to the San Francisco Giants just days into the 2019 season.

The move was met with shock and dismay from both casual and die-hard fans alike, and, truth be told, didn’t really pan out on the field like the Blue Jays front office was hoping. However, by sheer luck, the Giants were due back in Toronto in interleague play just days after the deal was made, so fans wouldn’t have to wait long to let Pillar know how they feel.

After being warmly welcomed to the plate for his first at-bat back in Toronto, Pillar ripped an RBI single, scoring Pablo Sandoval from second. His only hit of the day proved retrospectively to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Giants won, 7-6.

Pillar went on to have a career year playing for his hometown team. On-field performance aside, being able to give a final farewell to a player traded to the NL, so soon after he’s traded is rare, and Blue Jays fans made the most of it.
