Taking a bite out of the Big Apple

The final leg of TFC’s three-game road swing pits the Reds against another team battling for their playoff lives; New York City FC. Yankee Stadium has been kind to Toronto over the years. The small, almost toy-like pitch dimensions have made matches in the Bronx chaotic and fast-paced, leading to a lot of goals and a lot of angry purists.

TFC infamously dispatched NYC FC 5-0 at the venue on their way to a birth in the MLS Cup final in 2016. A reincarnation of that whooping would certainly be what the doctor ordered, but NYC FC, who are much more accustomed to the small pitch and the challenges it presents, will have other plans.

Meaningless prediction: 3-2 NYC FC.

TFC will return home from New York to take on the basement dwellers of the Western Conference, the Colorado Rapids. While the Rapids are last in the west, they have scored 39 goals this season, one more than TFC has bagged in their 2019 campaign. It’s the fact that Colorado has conceded 48 goals that has landed them in last.

In a matchup of two teams that live and die by their offence, the pyro person at BMO Field better keep their hand on the trigger.

Meaningless prediction: 4-2 Toronto FC.
