The Buffalo Sabres nab a top centre prospect with the seventh overall pick in our first mock draft since the NHL Draft Lottery

We’re heading into the home stretch of the NHL season, and with the playoffs in full swing, new team’s are being eliminated with every passing day.

For other teams, they’ve been enjoying the offseason for over a week. The draft lottery has come and gone and we now know who will pick first overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.

It’s the New Jersey Devils who will have the first chance to step up to the podium on June 21, with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks following them. The biggest losers from the lottery were the Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings, who held the two best odds to land the top pick.

The Avalanche are moving on to the second round of the playoffs after completing a gentleman’s sweep over the Calgary Flames, but they’ll have a top-five pick due to the Matt Duchene trade with Ottawa.

The Buffalo Sabres find themselves with the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, something that would’ve been hard to grasp at the halfway point of the season. They were poised to make the postseason after a stellar first half, but with a disastrous second half, they find themselves in an all-too-familiar position.

So who will the team go with? And which other names will be called in the first 15 picks? Let’s take a look at our post-lottery mock draft.
