9) Will Wolford

Selected: 20th overall in 1986

Played: 13 seasons, including 7 with the Bills

Career highlights: 3-time Pro Bowler, 1-time second team All Pro

No matter how good a quarterback is, he needs someone to protect him, which you’ll come to find out in this list, was extremely important to the Bills. A big reason for their success in the late eighties and early nineties came down to the offensive line, including Will Wolford.

Wolford enjoyed a fine college career at Vanderbilt University between 1982-85, earning All-SEC honors in his senior year and playing in the Senior Bowl. Capable of starting at different positions along the offensive line, the Bills drafted him in 1986 and he started at right guard from day one.

However, in 1987 the decision was made to move the Louisville, Kentucky native over to the all-important left tackle spot and the team never look back. His play earned him two Pro Bowl invites and one second-team All-Pro selection.

Wolford performances resulted in him becoming one of the most sought-after players in the inaugural free agent class of 1992. The Indianapolis Colts offered a contract which made him the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL.

Even though the then 28-year old was sorry to leave Buffalo, he knew he had to accept the deal and the Bills lost one of their best players. Regardless, his seven seasons with the Bills will always be remembered, as he helped take the team to heights never before seen in Western New York.
