Toronto Maple Leafs trade Par Lindholm for Nic Petan
By James Reeve
The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Swedish winger Par Lindholm to the Winnipeg Jets, in exchange for Nic Petan.
Par Lindholm‘s time with the Toronto Maple Leafs has come to an end after being traded to the Jets for Nicolas Petan.
The deal sees the Leafs part ways with the Swedish rookie, who had predominantly held a role on the fourth line – shifting from centre to the wing with Frederik Gauthier looking more comfortable in the middle.
The Jets receive a player who can play adequately in the defensive zone, starting there 69.8 percent of the time while playing for the Leafs – averaging 11:27 per contest on the ice.
Lindholm blocked 54 shots and threw the same number of hits during his rookie season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but his ability to steal the puck made him a decent player on the fourth line – with 27 takeaways and just 11 giveaways in 61 regular season games.

The 27-year-old didn’t produce much offensively, earning just a single goal and 10 assists, but the Jets have plenty of scoring forwards – adding Lindholm as potentially a defensive option on the bottom end of their line-up.
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, they get a guy who is viewed as a premier scorer in the AHL while still trying to find his way in the NHL.
The 23-year-old centre has made 108 regular season appearances for the Jets in his career, with just five goals and 23 total points in a four-year span.
Petan will more than likely be competing with Trevor Moore for ice time with the Leafs, with Mike Babcock effectively deciding which player he’d prefer to have stick around heading into the playoffs.
Averaging just 7:13 on the ice in 13 games for the Jets this season, there has not been much hockey for Petan, who has 28 goals and 89 total points in 108 AHL games.
The 2013 second-round selection by the Jets had a stellar junior career with the Portland Winterhawks, during which time he helped Team Canada to the gold medal in the 2014-15 World Junior Championships.
While this deal will not have a significant impact on the Toronto Maple Leafs, it will still be interesting to see how Petan steps up and competes with Moore – who is quickly becoming a fan favourite in the team’s system.
