With more speculation concerning Sebastian Giovinco’s future, Toronto FC should do that right thing and let him know where he stands.

There’s been a lot of speculation recently regarding Sebastian Giovinco’s future with Toronto FC, from the likes of the media, his agent and the player himself. The rumors continued on Monday, with claims that Giovinco left TFC’s training camp in Irvine, California to return to Toronto in anticipation of an imminent transfer.

However, Sportsnet‘s John Molinaro reported that he spoke to a club official, who advised that the 2015 MLS MVP was still in California. Further, he only left camp to consult a Doctor in Los Angeles about an issue with his leg, and would rejoin his teammates later on Monday afternoon.

Giovinco has made it clear he would prefer to remain in Toronto. And yet, the constant uncertainty can only serve to make the Reds’ fan base increasingly nervous about what will happen with the best player in franchise (and arguably MLS) history.

About the only thing that is clear throughout all this, is the lack of clarity from the club itself. In fact, they are the only party who haven’t had much to say, other than to deny any contact from other clubs interested in their star player.

More from Toronto FC

If Toronto FC are planning to negotiate an extension with Giovinco, great. If they have no intention of re-signing him, fine.

Even if TFC is undecided on what to do with him at this stage, that’s also okay. But at the very least, they should provide the 32-year-old with some transparency.

There may be some people who believe the Reds have already updated Giovinco on their plans. This seems extremely unlikely however, given his comments to the media, about other clubs contacting him and wanting to remain in Southern Ontario.

As such, you imagine the uncertainty must be extremely frustrating for the Italian international. He’s settled in Toronto, so much so that he bought a house in the area.

It’s time for TFC to put Giovinco out of his misery and let him know what their future plans are for him. He deserves at least this much, after everything he’s done for the club.
