Toronto Maple Leafs give Trevor Moore two-year extension
By James Reeve
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Sunday that forward Trevor Moore has signed a new two-year extension with the team.
The deal sees Trevor Moore stick around with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a very reasonable deal, after the 23-year-old made an impressive start to his NHL career this season.
The deal sees Moore carry an average annual value of just $775,000 over the next two seasons – earning $750,000 in 2019-20 and $800,000 in 2020-21.
Moore has had an extraordinary route to the NHL, going undrafted after playing for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL – moving on to have a hugely impressive spell in college hockey.

During his time with the University of Denver, Moore was effectively a point-per-game player, registering 120 points (47 goals and 73 assists) in 121 regular season games.
Moore helped Denver to an NCHC championship in 2013-14 and received individual honours across his time in college, being named to the All-Rookie Team, First All-Star Team and even named NCHC Forward of the Year in his second season.
His performances in college grabbed the attention of the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation, who signed him to a three-year entry-level contract back in July 2016.
Moore’s first season with the organisation saw him earn 33 points (13 goals and 20 assists) in 57 regular season games in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies.
The following season, he registered the same number of total points in 68 games, but it was his performances in the playoffs that truly started to show his potential – with 17 points (six goals and 11 assists) in 20 games en route to a Calder Cup championship.
In 2018-19, Moore once again started with the Marlies, seeing his offensive production drastically improve – with 19 goals and 26 total points in just 30 games to date.
This strong showing from the Thousand Oaks, California native earned him his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs – a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings that saw him earn an assist in the game.
Since making his debut, Moore has now made six appearances for the Toronto Maple Leafs, earning a goal and two total assists while averaging just 8:16 on the ice.
Moore, while playing predominantly fourth-line minutes, has not looked out of place in the NHL, and his first goal for the Leafs was a stunning solo effort against the Vancouver Canucks.
The 23-year-old has also had exceptional possession stats in his brief spell with the NHL club, posting a 55.7 percent Corsi rating while starting in the offensive zone only 40.9 percent of the time.
The latest player to come through the Marlies’ development system undoubtedly has a positive future ahead of him and the Leafs now have him secured for at least two more seasons at an exceptionally low cost – coming at a time when the team’s cap situation is likely to be quite tight.
