Frederik Andersen loses the Vezina Trophy to John Gibson

This might be the best chance for Andersen to win the Vezina trophy but there is a tough field as per usual. John Gibson, Pekka Rinne and Marc-Andre Fleury will make it tough and in the end it could come down to the former Anaheim Ducks tandem.

Andersen has 20 wins in 30 games which is second in the league and five ahead of Gibson.  When it comes to save percentages Gibson has a .924 and Andersen has a .923 and the Leafs starter has a 2.50 GAA and the Ducks starter has a 2.59 GAA.

Right now the advantage should be for Andersen but the question now becomes whether he can keep this up to the end of the season. While many know how much of a workload Andersen has on the Leafs, it doesn’t compare to Gibson’s in Anaheim.

It has gotten to the point where Gibson could receive Hart Trophy consideration if the Ducks make the playoffs with Anaheim 28th in goals scored with 99. The Leafs have 144 goals this season so there is no question of which goalie gets more support.

Let’s also not forget who votes for the Vezina which is the general managers in the league and if they take wins and losses into account, Andersen might have a chance but if Gibson has a respectable record it would be tough to not make him the winner.
