TORONTO,ON – DECEMBER 6: William Nylander /

Despite the Toronto Maple Leafs and William Nylander not being close to an agreement on a contract, the team cannot budge from their position.

As the deadline for the Toronto Maple Leafs and William Nylander to come to an agreement on a new contract draws closer, many are wondering where the line gets drawn and who crosses over.

On Monday, Sportsnet’s Luke Fox spoke with former assistant general manager Mark Hunter who saw this being a tough deal to negotiate but he probably didn’t anticipate it dragging out this long. In fairness, nobody did really.

Leafs fans definitely want this saga over for multiple reasons; they want Nylander to be on the ice and not have to constantly search for updates or have every other segment on the news or radio discussing the negotiations.

Losing 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins didn’t help ease the concerns from Leafs fans considering the team’s inability to score when they outshot the Bruins heavily in the first period and Boston’s top line feasted on the Leafs.

Whether the Leafs are willing to let Nylander sit for the season remains to be seen but they know they have to remain firm in their position for many reasons.
