The Toronto Maple Leafs have three prospects in the goaltender position including Ian Scott who has been turning heads for his junior team so far this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending prospect Ian Scott currently plays for the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League, and he is putting up career-high numbers to start the 2018/19 season.

The 6-foot-3, 183lbs native of Calgary, Alberta has an impressive six wins in his first six games of the season with the Raiders – conceding just nine goals in that span.

That works out to be a 1.50 goal against average, with Scott holding an exceptional .949 save percentage on 178 shots he has faced.

More from Toronto Maple Leafs

With Scott facing almost 30 shots per game, the big-bodied Canadian has certainly stepped up his performances as he continues to develop in the WHL.

Scott was also named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week on the 1st October, having earned a 5-0-0 record up to that point.

Scott was a fourth-round selection (110th overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2017 draft, having posted 3.69GAA and .895 save percentage in 50 regular season games during his draft year.

The following season, Scott posted similar numbers but did show some improvements – with 3.10GAA and a .897 save percentage, again in 50 games.

Scott was also called up for a one-game appearance with the Calder Cup-winning Toronto Marlies, posting a 3.00GAA and .909 save percentage – not bad numbers for a 19-year-old prospect.

He has also been included in the Marlies’ official championship-winning roster on the AHL’s website.

Scott’s start to the 2018/19 season will certainly be noticed by the higher-ups in the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation, with the team having an interesting goaltending situation in the minors.

With the loss of Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard to waivers, the Leafs could look to bring on one or two of their goaltending prospects next season, with the Leafs also having Joseph Woll and Zachary Bouthillier in their system.

Woll has performed well for Boston College over the past few seasons, whilst Bouthillier has further to go in terms of his development with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the QMJHL.

With Scott now stepping up his game in the WHL, the future could be bright for the Leafs between the pipes and it could see him earn his first professional contract earlier than perhaps originally anticipated.
