Ken Giles

The Blue Jays moved a closer with team control for the exact same thing in Giles, and one that was a crucial part of the Astros’ getting to the World Series roster in 2017.

At 27-years-old, Giles is certainly older than Osuna (23), but is under team control until 2020. That is valuable for a couple of reasons, he could become the team’s closer going forward or depending on the Blue Jays plans they could choose to move him in the offseason.

Unfortunately, Giles went from being a dominant reliever to demoted to triple-A this season so at this point he’s going to be a reclamation project. One thing about relievers though is that they can easily turn from good to bad and vice versa so there’s no reason to count out Giles yet.

One thing that you can count on is that he will see a lot of action in the final stretch of the season. He owns a career ERA of 2.72 with a very strong 12.0 K/9 rate which put him among the top closer.

Let’s just hope he can contain his emotions better than he did back in May.
