Toronto Blue Jays: 4 storylines to follow post All-Star break
How does Roberto Osuna‘s situation play out?
This is one situation that won’t have an easy resolution because there are two sides of the story to think about. The Blue Jays want Osuna back on the mound if they intend on trading him in the offseason but that will probably come with a backlash from fans over the message that they’re sending as a team.
Rob Manfred said that the league has no issue with Osuna coming back even with his case still ongoing because both sides came to an agreement on a suspension.
“If in fact the application of that policy results in Roberto coming back to work after a very long suspension while there are still unresolved criminal proceedings, I can live with that result, because that’s the policy we negotiated,” baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said at the all-star game on Tuesday. “You can’t take all the benefits of the policy and then turn around and say, gee, I don’t like the outcome in this case and therefore I’m going to do something else.”
This is probably the mindset that the Blue Jays are going forward with and if something comes out of the court proceedings, the team will deal with it accordingly.
As Shi Davidi of Sportsnet wrote, manager John Gibbons was disappointed with the news but will be supporting his player. How it plays out going forward will certainly be an intriguing storyline that will have big implications for the team going forward.
