Defence. Rasmus Sandin. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL). 21. player. 120

Sandin has gone through a season that saw him start overseas and eventually make his way to North America to play with Sault Ste. Marie.

With the absence of Conor Timmins for a chunk of the season, Sandin was able to take over as the top dog on the backend for the Greyhounds, rounding into one of the best overall two-way defenders in the draft.

His time in Sweden also awarded him the chance to play against men in the SHL, so he could make the jump quicker than others drafted ahead of him.

Ottawa could have used a player like Sandin on the backend. However, they can sleep easy knowing they’ve got another good defender in Woo.

With easily the best name in the draft, Woo plays more of an “old-school” type of game according to scouts and draft pundits. He loves to lay the body and doesn’t mind dropping the gloves.

Most people would decipher that as a player who doesn’t exactly fit the mould of the today’s NHL. He does everything on the defensive end well. The questions arise regarding his offensive upside at the pro level.

He can take care of things in his own end though and that’s something Ottawa needs. With questions about Karlsson, and the Sens not having a lot of top-end defensive prospects in their system, they would do well to add both Boqvist and Woo with their firsts.
