Toronto Maple Leafs: Mason Marchment earns entry-level contract
By James Reeve
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced this week that the club has signed forward Mason Marchment to a two-year entry-level contract.
According to CapFriendly, Mason Marchment has signed a two-year deal which will carry a $767,500 cap hit for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with an AAV of $925,000 with bonuses. His salary while playing in the minors will be $70,000.
The 6-foot-4, 201 lbs left winger has been a part of the Toronto Marlies organisation since 2016. His contract is a well-earned reward for a player who has had to work hard through various levels of hockey to have a shot at playing in the NHL.
The 23-year-old Marchment started his journey playing AAA Midget hockey for the Central Ontario Wolves for two seasons, before moving to the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Scoring 43 points (22G-21A) in 51 OJHL games saw him earn a chance in major juniors, playing for the Erie Otters in the 2014-15 season.
Marchment had eight goals and 26 total points (54 games) for the Otters before bouncing around the league, spending short spells with the Hamilton Bulldogs and Mississauga Steelheads, where he totalled 51 points (20G-31A).
His performances as an ‘overager’ earned him a deal with the Marlies, but he wouldn’t make the team out of the gate.
He had to continue his hard work and development in the ECHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ current affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears.
After a 14-goal, 20 point season in the third tier of professional hockey in North America, Marchment stepped up to the AHL and performed well enough to catch the attention of the big club’s management.
Nine goals and 21 total points in 37 AHL games shows good progress for the Uxbridge, Ontario native, who has had to grind his way through the ranks ever since his teens.
Marchment will need to continue this positive trajectory if he hopes to break into a stacked Leafs’ team, but the early signs are positive.
