Riser: Ty Smith, Defence, Spokane Chiefs (WHL)

Smith was already projected to be a lottery pick as the New Year came around. But his overall performance in February could have pushed him to his highest point this season.

Although he’s undersized, Smith put up a whopping 21 points in 12 games in the month of February. This brought his total for the year to 68 points in 60 games.

Now, in March, Smith has upped his point total to 73 points in 66 games.

"If the on-ice package isn’t enough, look no further than character for this smooth-skating defenceman who projects to someday wear a letter in the show. – Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet"

It has been a productive year for the Chiefs, who have clinched a playoff spot in the competitive U.S. Division of the WHL.

Smith has been piling up points all season for Spokane and has a chance to be a big contributor when it matters most for his team.
