SAN ANTONIO,TX – APRIL 19: Tony Allen /

Tony Allen

This might be more of a long-shot but the first step is already underway for Allen to take the next step towards joining a contender. The Chicago Bulls waived the guard after acquiring him from the New Orleans Pelicans.

As pointed out by Alec Nathan of the Bleacher Report, the 36-year old was the top defensive options for the Pelicans which would prove to be a valuable commodity for a contender, especially in high pressure situations.

It has already been reported that the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder are interested in Allen if they are able to get through a tough stretch of injuries, as he has only played 22 games this season.

Allen is averaging 4.7 points per game and is 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The issue is whether he can stay healthy and overcome his struggles at the free-throw line.

It will be a tough sell for the Raptors unless the other rumoured teams find other options or Allen finds Toronto as a desirable spot as a contender.
