BUFFALO, NY – DECEMBER 2: Derek Roy /

Derek Roy – Team Canada

Where did you go old friend? Remember the days of Roy being a part of the core in Buffalo? It likely wasn’t a bad idea, since the Sabres came as close to contention than they have for the past six seasons.

Buffalo was big on players who could amass over 20 goals not too long ago. Roy had five seasons where he notched 20 or more, including putting up 32 goals and 49 assists in the 2007/08 season.

Ever since his time with the Buffalo Sabres, Roy has been shipped all around the continent. Stints with the Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and the Edmonton Oilers; and the list probably didn’t stop there.

Now the longtime veteran plays in Sweden with Linkopings HC of the Swedish Hockey League, after stops in the KHL and the Swiss league. He will always be remembered for his time with the Sabres especially when the team was making the playoffs, a concept that seems so foreign right now.
