Buffalo Sabres: Who should they select at the top of the draft?
By Nick McAdam
Rasmus Dahlin
- Position: LHD
- Team: Frolunda (SHL)
- 17-years-old
With how badly the defense of the Buffalo Sabres is struggling right now, the thought of Dahlin on the back-end is a joy.
Maybe the Sabres don’t need anymore left-shot defensemen, but at the same time, they need blue liners with talent.
Offensive production is killing Buffalo at the moment, which doesn’t play well into Phil Housley‘s system at all. Luckily, Dahlin has scored an array of goals and assists in his young career, six goals and 16 assists of which have came this season.
Elite Prospects noted these comments from Erik K. on just how versatile a two-way defenseman Dahlin has been:
"Dahlin is a smart two-way defenseman who can play in any situation. He is a terrific skater and stick handler who can rush the puck, or join the attack in a hurry. Impressive agility makes him a good one-on-one defender. He has fine passing ability, and although not a big-time bomber, he has an accurate shot from the point."
It’s a bit of a reach to think the Sabres are going to get the number one overall draft pick. Tanking is a possibility, but do fans really want to see that? The only hope is that the Arizona Coyotes pass on the likes of Dahlin in the draft, just so Buffalo can grab him.
